Dhaka-- (UNB) - The Premier Division Cricket League scheduled to begin on Monday may be deferred for one or two days.

Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) met on Friday to discuss objections with the draft by-laws but only three clubs took part in the meeting.

CCDM secretary Mahmudul Haq Manu yesterday said they would meet again today (Sunday) with managers, coaches and captains of all participating clubs.

“We have already completed fixture and by-laws. So it’s not impossible to start the league on time if there is no objection from any club,” said Manu.

But at the same time he apprehended that the league might have to be deferred for one or two days.

According to CCDM decision, Abahani Limited will take part in the league as running champions while Kalabagan Krira Chakra as runners-up although the championship has been stayed by court.

If the league begins Monday, Abahani Limited will take on promotee Young Cricketers at the Bangabandhu National Stadium and Kalabagan KC face Dhanmondi Club at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh Biman will meet Agrani Bank SC at the Bangabandhu National Stadium while Surjo Tarun Club will face Sadharan Bima at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium on the following day.

As per the CCDM decision, each of the 12 premier division clubs will be allowed to register four foreign cricketers, of whom two will be allowed to play in a match.

The Premier Division League, once regarded as vital domestic cricket tournament in the country, lost its attraction after BCB restricted the national players participation in the league.

As a result, upcoming local cricketers and foreign players are expected play key role to decide the league championship this season.

There was a rush for new players among the local clubs particularly who have done well in the national league.

Champions Abahani Limited will have to depend totally on new players like national league star Nafis Iqbal and Anisur Rahman Sanchoy.

However, their arch rivals Mohammedan SC formed a strong team for the league.

Veteran Minhajul Abedin Nannu returned to his old camp while two promising pacers Taposh Kumar Baysha and Mohammed Sharif also joined the MSC.

Mohammedan’s another vital recruit is Pakistani Zahoor Elahi, who hit three consecutive tons in the last year league for Kalabagan.

The other title contenders team Bangladesh Biman, Kalabagan and Surjo Tarun Club also composed their team depending on the young guys.
